Lava has made a significant stride in the Indian market with the launch of the upgraded version of the Lava Blaze 5G, known as the Lava Blaze Pro 5G. Priced at an affordable Rs 12,499 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, this smartphone aims to cater to mid-range customers. Given the current scarcity of 5G smartphones priced below Rs 15,000, a pertinent question arises: can this device truly deliver a satisfying user experience at such a competitive price point? We spent two days testing this smartphone, and here’s our first impression.

Lava Blaze Pro 5G Price and Availability

The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the Lava Blaze Pro 5G is available for Rs 12,499. It comes in two appealing color options, Starry Night and Radiant Pearl. The smartphone will be on sale from October 3 across various platforms, including offline stores, Amazon, and the official Lava India website.

Design

We reviewed the beautiful Starry Night color variant, which boasts a stunning matte finish on the back. The camera module features a glossy finish and is designed with dual circular rings, adding a touch of elegance to the overall aesthetics. The pill-shaped LED flash complements the design, and the subtle Lava 5G branding at the rear adds to its appeal.

With dimensions of 168.7 mm in length, 76.7 mm in width, 8.9 mm in thickness, and a weight of 203 grams, the Lava Blaze Pro 5G feels sleek and comfortable in hand. Despite being positioned as a budget device, its classy design and build quality are commendable.

Display

The Lava Blaze Pro 5G features a vibrant 6.78-inch FHD+ hole-punch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth visuals. Our initial experience with video playback was mostly positive; however, we encountered some minor glitches, such as accidental window closures and difficulties in full-screen viewing. These issues may stem from software bugs that require further investigation. We will provide detailed insights into display performance in our complete review.

Processor

Under the hood, the Lava Blaze Pro 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 processor. During our initial usage, the device operated without any noticeable lag. It includes an impressive 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage, with the option to expand RAM virtually up to 8GB. Although we haven’t yet conducted extensive tests, such as gaming or heavy multitasking, we will assess its performance thoroughly in our upcoming review.

Camera

The camera setup of the Lava Blaze Pro 5G includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front. Initial testing revealed decent performance, with good zoom capabilities supporting up to 10x zoom, although image clarity did diminish at higher zoom levels.

The selfie camera also performed well during video calls and for selfies, offering a 4x zoom capability for detailed shots. While the camera performed satisfactorily in optimal lighting conditions, we expected better results in low-light settings and with zoom functionality. A detailed camera review will follow as we continue testing it in varied conditions.

Battery

The device houses a robust 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. We charged the device from 35% to 75% in about an hour, reflecting satisfying charging speed for its price range. We will explore its battery performance under different usage scenarios in our full review.

In a crowded market of budget smartphones priced under Rs 15,000, Lava has entered the fray with its 5G offering, appealing to consumers seeking value without compromising on essential features. While the Lava Blaze Pro 5G makes an intriguing choice, it faces tough competition from other brands boasting strong hardware in this segment. Stay tuned for our comprehensive review to see if the Lava Blaze Pro 5G truly stands out in this competitive landscape.
