Bengaluru-based biotech startup Biodimension Technology has raised ₹8 crore (around $1 million) in a fresh funding round led by IAN Angel Fund. Existing investor Campus Angels Network also joined the round, along with angel investors Dr. Sampath Srisailam and Aaryan Baid.
The new funding will help the company improve its products, expand its laboratory facilities, and strengthen its scientific and business teams. Biodimension also plans to use the money to increase its presence in India and enter new international markets.
Funding to Support Expansion Plans
Biodimension said the fresh capital will be used to speed up product development and support business growth. The startup is looking to expand its operations across India while also entering Southeast Asian markets.
In addition, the company wants to build partnerships in Europe, the United States, and Japan to increase the global reach of its technology.
The startup was founded by Manojkumar S., Ranjith Kumar Velusamy, and Pradeep Arunachalam, who met while studying Biotechnology at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). The company was officially incorporated in January 2021.
During its early days, Biodimension operated from the VIT Technology Business Incubator, which provided grants, laboratory equipment, and workspace. In June 2023, the company moved its main operations to Bengaluru to take advantage of the city’s growing deep-tech and biotechnology ecosystem.
At present, Biodimension has a team of around 13 employees, including scientists and support staff.
Developing Lab-Grown Human Tissue Models
Biodimension focuses on creating lab-grown human tissue models that can be used for research, safety testing, and drug development. These models are designed to provide a more accurate alternative to traditional testing methods.
One of its key products is BioDEpi, a reconstructed human skin model used for safety and toxicity testing. The company also offers BioDFT, a full-thickness skin model that closely resembles real human skin, and BioDPigma, a pigmented skin model used in cosmetic and dermatology research.
Apart from skin-related products, Biodimension has developed a Pan-Cancer Tumour Microenvironment Biobank to support cancer research and drug discovery. It also provides Bioassay as a Service (BaaS), which allows companies to access advanced testing services without setting up their own laboratories.
The startup uses advanced digital tools, including Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform, to analyse data and support product development.
According to the company, its lab-grown tissues are priced at around ₹10,000 per tissue, depending on the size and application.
Biodimension is also building its intellectual property portfolio. It has already filed one provisional patent and is preparing additional patent applications.
Growing Customer Base and Future Opportunities
The company follows a three-stage business strategy. It first focuses on personal care and cosmetic testing, followed by pharmaceutical drug screening. In the future, Biodimension aims to explore clinical applications such as skin grafting, although those projects will require significant research, clinical trials, and investment.
Biodimension has already started commercial operations and is currently working with one of India’s top FMCG companies. The startup also has around 15 potential customers in its sales pipeline and has received tissue pre-orders for product validation.
The company has also built partnerships with contract research organisations (CROs) in India and Singapore.
Before this funding round, Biodimension raised about $144,000 in seed funding from Campus Angels Network in October 2024. It has also received support from government-backed programmes, including a ₹50 lakh Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) from DBT-BIRAC.
With the latest investment, Biodimension aims to strengthen its position in the fast-growing biotechnology sector. As demand rises for alternatives to animal testing and better drug development tools, the startup hopes to expand its reach and become a major player in the human tissue engineering space.
The fresh funding marks an important step in Biodimension’s growth journey as it looks to scale operations, enter new markets, and bring its biotechnology solutions to more customers across the world.
