San Francisco-based healthtech startup CARPL.ai, which has a strong presence in India, has raised $10 million in a Series A funding round led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector investment arm of the World Bank Group. Existing investor Stellaris Venture Partners also joined the funding round.

With this latest investment, CARPL.ai has now raised a total of $16 million, including its earlier seed funding. The company plans to use the fresh capital to improve its AI platform, develop new products, and expand its sales and customer support teams across North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region.

The funding comes as hospitals around the world are looking for easier ways to use artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging. CARPL.ai aims to make this process simple by allowing hospitals to access and manage multiple AI tools through one platform instead of connecting each tool separately.

CARPL.ai wants to become a one-stop AI platform for hospitals

CARPL.ai started with a focus on radiology, but its long-term goal is much bigger. The company has built a platform that gives hospitals access to more than 300 AI applications from over 100 companies through a single system.

Many hospitals face a common problem today. Although hundreds of AI tools are available for medical imaging, installing and managing each one separately can be difficult and time-consuming. CARPL.ai solves this problem by providing one platform that connects all these AI applications with the hospital’s existing imaging systems.

CEO Dr. Vidur Mahajan said the company plans to go beyond radiology in the future. CARPL.ai wants to expand into pathology, genomics, general medicine, and even AI-powered robotic surgery. The long-term vision is to become the main platform that helps hospitals safely use AI across different medical fields.

The company has also achieved important regulatory approvals. In May 2024, CARPL.ai received US FDA 510(k) clearance for its enterprise imaging platform and AI viewer. Later, in October 2024, it became the first enterprise imaging AI platform to receive the European CE Mark, allowing hospitals in Europe to use many approved AI applications through its platform while meeting international quality and security standards.

Platform already used by hospitals across several countries

CARPL.ai’s platform is currently being used by 30 hospitals and medical centers around the world. Its customers include government healthcare systems in India, Singapore, Brazil, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates, along with four of the world’s five largest private radiology groups.

In Singapore, public hospitals use the platform to test AI models before they are used in real patient care. Hospitals compare AI results with actual clinical findings to make sure the technology is accurate before putting it into daily use.

Australia is another important market for the company. Qscan Group has adopted CARPL.ai to support the country’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program. Another major customer, I-MED Radiology Network, has also added the platform to help doctors use new AI tools more quickly.

In the UK and Ireland, Medica Group is using the platform to test AI applications before introducing them into regular clinical practice. CARPL.ai has also partnered with leading imaging software companies, making it easier for hospitals to use AI without changing their existing systems.

The company says its platform is also improving quality checks. In one study, AI reviewed 708 chest X-rays that had already been marked as normal by radiologists. The AI flagged 46 possible problems, and after another review by doctors, 12 important findings that had been missed earlier were confirmed. This shows how AI can help doctors reduce errors while still keeping humans in control.

Growing AI market also brings strong competition

The global market for AI in radiology is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years as more hospitals adopt AI to improve speed and accuracy in medical diagnosis.

At the same time, competition is becoming stronger. Large healthcare technology companies are investing heavily in AI and building their own imaging platforms. Several major mergers in the industry show that big companies want to offer complete AI solutions directly to hospitals.

For CARPL.ai, this creates both opportunities and challenges. While its platform already offers hundreds of AI applications, the company will need to expand its hospital customer base and continue working with healthcare partners to stay ahead of growing competition.

Experts also believe AI will change the role of radiologists in the coming years. Instead of replacing doctors, AI is expected to handle routine image analysis, allowing radiologists to spend more time on difficult cases, treatment planning, and patient care. Platforms like CARPL.ai could play an important role in helping hospitals adopt AI safely while ensuring that doctors remain responsible for final clinical decisions.
