Actor and entrepreneur Kunal Kapoor has launched MetaGO, a new health-tech startup that aims to help people manage metabolic diseases before they become serious. He has co-founded the company with Varun Sheth and Zaheer Adenwala, who also worked with him to build the medical crowdfunding platform Ketto. After spending more than a decade helping patients raise money for expensive treatments, the founders now want to focus on preventing those health problems in the first place.
MetaGO is a doctor-led platform that provides long-term care for people living with obesity, Type 2 diabetes, PCOS, PCOD, thyroid disorders, and high blood pressure. Instead of offering quick weight-loss solutions, the company says it combines doctors, technology, medical tests, and health coaching to help patients improve their overall health in a sustainable way.
Why the Founders Started MetaGO
The idea behind MetaGO came from the founders’ experience at Ketto. For the past 14 years, they have seen thousands of families struggling to arrange money for treatments related to heart disease, kidney failure, diabetes complications, and other serious illnesses.
They realised that many of these diseases did not develop overnight. In many cases, they were caused by metabolic conditions that had gone unnoticed or untreated for years. This made the founders believe that healthcare should focus more on preventing diseases rather than treating them only after they become severe.
Kunal Kapoor has said that many people receive medical help only when their condition has already become serious. With MetaGO, the team wants to encourage early diagnosis and regular medical support so that patients can avoid future complications.
The platform offers online doctor consultations, laboratory tests, health tracking tools, connected medical devices, and regular coaching sessions. Patients receive continuous support from healthcare professionals instead of depending only on occasional doctor visits.
MetaGO’s medical team includes endocrinologist Dr. Deep Hathi and internal medicine specialist Dr. Abhinav Garg, both of whom have more than 10 years of experience in treating obesity and metabolic diseases.
Doctor-Supervised GLP-1 Treatment with Lifestyle Support
One of MetaGO’s main services is the supervised use of GLP-1 medicines such as Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. These medicines are widely used to treat obesity and Type 2 diabetes and have become popular around the world for helping patients lose weight and improve their metabolic health.
However, MetaGO says these medicines should not be treated as a quick way to lose weight for cosmetic reasons. Kunal Kapoor believes that GLP-1 medicines are medical treatments for people with metabolic diseases and should always be used under proper medical supervision.
The company also points out that losing weight too quickly can sometimes reduce muscle mass along with body fat. To avoid this, MetaGO provides ongoing support through doctors who monitor treatment and manage side effects, while health coaches help patients follow a protein-rich diet, exercise regularly, and maintain healthy muscle mass during weight loss.
Dr. Abhinav Garg says GLP-1 medicines can help patients reduce around 15% to 20% of their body weight, which is much higher than what many people achieve through diet and exercise alone. However, he also explains that people who stop taking the medicine without making healthy lifestyle changes often regain much of the lost weight within a year. That is why MetaGO combines medication with diet planning, exercise guidance, and behavioural coaching.
MetaGO Launches as India’s Obesity Care Market Changes
MetaGO has entered the market at a time when obesity treatment in India is becoming more affordable. Earlier this year, the patent for semaglutide expired in India, allowing several Indian pharmaceutical companies to introduce lower-cost generic versions of the medicine.
Although these medicines are now available at lower prices, patients still have to pay for them themselves because health insurance plans generally do not cover obesity treatment with GLP-1 medicines. At the same time, regulators have increased monitoring to make sure prescription medicines are promoted responsibly.
Along with its online healthcare services, MetaGO has also started community health programmes. One of its recent initiatives was a free metabolic health camp for Mumbai Police personnel, where officers received blood tests and consultations with doctors. The company plans to organise similar programmes for other professional groups in the future.
MetaGO operates as MetaGO Healthcare Private Limited and aims to build a healthcare platform that focuses on prevention instead of emergency treatment. By bringing together doctors, technology, health coaching, and continuous patient support, the startup hopes to help more Indians manage metabolic diseases before they become life-threatening.
